Documentary exploring life for women in California's Maple Street Correctional Centre, with the opening episode focusing on the intake area. Many of the jail's new arrivals are habitual drug users, so the staff have to deal with inmates in various stages of withdrawal. Officers declare a medical emergency when a newly arrived prisoner suffers multiple seizures, and paramedics race to respond in time.
Episode 2
The segregation pod of Western Massachusetts Regional Women's Correctional Centre houses the most violent inmates. When one of them attacks an officer, it takes all available staff to restrain her, and Sergeant Clayton begins an investigation into the reasons for the assault. Two prisoners who have been separated conduct a secret relationship, and a Satanist struggles to practice her religion behind bars
Episode 3
Suspected of being in a romantic relationship, Lo and Kayla are still being kept apart by officers - and Lo has a difficult decision to make. When jail veterans Jackie and Kourtney are moved, they bring with them all the latest news. Detox over, heroin addict Natasha is moved into the jail's general population. Used to living with her mother, how she will cope when thrown into an eight-person tank remains to be seen.

The longest-serving inmate in Western Massachusetts Regional Women's Correctional Centre faces another 11 years in prison for manslaughter, and struggles to come to terms with what she has done. A stripper convicted of ID fraud who gave birth in prison tries to turn her life around with a training programme, and a violent prisoner is being moved out of segregation and into a shared tank with seven others.
