At a restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, a customer's demand for a refund spirals into a heated back and forth with employees. In Rockford, Illinois, a rideshare trip takes a startling turn when a passenger doesn't exit the vehicle after being asked to by the driver. At a Phoenix, Arizona airport, an airline employee is moved to tears by a customer's unexpected praise. On a New York City subway, two passengers' dispute over the ownership of a bag brings the train to a standstill. In Sakon Nakhon, Thailand, a cafe employee runs for cover when a construction mishap next door causes the building's pillars to give way.

At a Utah airport, officers are called to deal with a passenger after confusion over a seat assignment quickly escalates. In the UK, a delivery worker's social media post about having the easiest job in the country goes viral, leading to an unexpected call from his employer. At a cell phone store in Brazil, as an employee who brought his young daughter to work briefly steps out of sight, a man with a mallet enters the store and begins wreaking havoc. In an Oklahoma hotel, guests and employees seek shelter as a tornado approaches the area.

But when Max gets arrested and ends up helping Ellis solve a local crime, the two are offered the opportunity to redeem themselves, with Ellis going back to detective and Max staying out of jail. The catch? They have to work together, with each using their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled shoe leather police work; for Max, it means accents, schemes and generally befriending everyone in sight, while driving Ellis absolutely nuts. Against the backdrop of beautiful Vancouver — with all its unique, charming, and even contradictory neighbourhoods and subcultures — the two will have to learn what it means to trust another person and maybe actually become partners.
