Dengler is sent a prepaid mobile, and then receives €15,000 in an envelope and an anonymous phone call asking him to discover who shot Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt. Dengler believes the official line that they committed suicide, but needs the money and accepts the case. With the aid of Olga, a hacker operating underground, he begins to reconstruct the events that culminated in the deaths. Numerous inconsistencies are soon revealed and the pair are drawn into a dark world of neo-nazis, state security agents and neo-fascists. What they don't know is that they are already in the sights of the criminal masterminds.

Once they're on the blacked-out Destination X bus, the journey turns into a real-life game board, with challenges designed to offer clues as to their location, along with a few misdirects to keep them guessing.
At the end of each episode, the contestant who places an X on a map furthest from the actual location packs their bags. The first participant to reach Destination X will be crowned the winner.
