Odcinek 7
The murderous journey of displaced Poles deep into the Soviet Union continues. During reloading at the station, Zbyszek is recruited to work by Soviet soldiers. The transport with his mother leaves. Having a chance to escape, Zbyszek decides to abandon Zofia and her siblings. In Bresal, Karl, as before, spends time with his colleagues, now members of the Gestapo. During one of the meetings, he watches a film about the shooting of prisoners sentenced to death. He's shocked at how quickly he got bored of it, even though he knew it was real death. Karl proposes to Maria and is accepted. Soon, however, the city is declared a fortress and called Festung Breslau. Among the works secured by the Grundmann commission there are chests full of gold teeth brought from Auschwitz as a secret Gestapo deposit. Karl, in consultation with the SS, devises a plan to hide gold and works of art of great value in underground caches in the mountains.
