In 1909 a Jewish orphan named Anna arrives in Manhattan from Poland and becomes a maid for the wealthy Lerners. Anna also finds herself attracted to two men---young Paul Lerner and ambitious entrepreneur Joseph Friedman.
Part 2
During the Depression, Maury Friedman and a wealthy Gentile named Agatha Bradford become united in marriage and consequently divided from their parents.
Part 3
Graduating from college in 1959, the Friedmans' grandson goes to Israel and finds love on a kibbutz.
