Pottwale und Mönchsrobben
The Mediterranean is the home of many marine dwellers, but is it also the home of the biggest predator on earth, the sperm whale! And where can one still find monk seals, who once populated the Mediterranean's shores? Nature filmmaker Thomas Behrend shoots stunning film material of the "giants" and the "phantoms" of the Mediterranean, but finds himself in mortal danger when he comes too close to a sperm-whale mother giving birth to her baby…
Mondfisch und Seekuh
Weighing two tons, the ocean sunfish, or mola, is the biggest and most curious bony fish of the sea. In this documentary, underwater filmmaker Thomas Behrend captures one of these gigantic fishes on film. For shooting in great depths, a super-high-tech submarine camera was used, which ensured sensational shots. Though the manatees in Florida are gentle, Behrend shows us that they lead exciting lives. Thanks to his observations, several hypotheses on the behavior of these ocean dwellers were confirmed.
Delphine und Chimären
This film is the first HD nature doc about the Puget Sound area in the American Northwest and the first HD doc about the life of dolphins who choose to live alone. About ten years ago Ute Margreff came upon the female dolphin Mara on Ireland's Atlantic coast, and an unusual friendship soon developed between the two. On Puget Sound, wildlife filmmaker Florian Graner found his paradise, where he encounters sea lions, North Pacific giant octopuses, and witnesses a dramatic killer whale hunt.
