Episode 1
The series begins by looking at how modern-day gangsters have emerged from the shadows of previous generations in Birmingham. The programme hears from two men - one a former gangster, the other an ex-criminal - who claim their actions have helped shape the modern underworld.

Episode 2
Former detective Rod Carter reveals how a spate of more than 50 murders have emerged from a gang rivalry in Manchester that began over a borrowed leather jacket, exploring the tiny area of the city that has played host to many of the deaths. Former gang leader Matthew Norford explains how a fight over territory led to him being shot, while ex-enforcer Cody Lachey talks about how many drug gangs worked hand-in-hand with door staff to maximise their profits.

Episode 3
The programme finds out how the narcotics trade put Liverpool on the criminal map, and meets a man who made - and lost - his fortune there. Another man reveals how he was one of the first to rob other criminals of their ill-gotten gains, and used his propensity for violence to make sure he always got the upper hand.

Mayor of Kingstown
Mayor of Kingstown is set in a small Michigan town where the only industry remaining are federal, state, and private prisons, the story follows the McLusky family, the power brokers between the police, criminals, inmates, prison guards and politicians, in a city completely dependent on prisons and the prisoners they contain. It is a stark and brutal look at the business of incarceration.
