America's Youngest Offenders
In episode two, the documentary looks at how, in an effort to reduce the number of children in prison, some US states are trying a revolutionary new approach, with shorter sentences and an emphasis on rehabilitation and treatment programmes. Jason-Caleb Hill was caught breaking into an apartment and stealing a gun. He could be freed within six months if he completes his course. Amanda Artyamsoal was involved in a fatal arson attack that made national headlines. She hopes to be free by her 18th birthday in less than four weeks' time. Cyleina Briggs is spending some of her 10-year sentence at Madison Institutional Facility for girls, rather than an adult prison, while Nathaniel Johnson, 15, has taken 18 months to finish his course - three times longer than most inmates.
