Лычков сообщает следствию заведомо ложные сведения о похищенном, явно преуменьшая его стоимость. Местный отдел МГБ проводит тотальные аресты, но банде Чалого удается ускользнуть. Павливкер уверен в причастности Козырева к произошедшему, и по его требованию Самсонов отстраняет Козырева от операции по зачистке криминальных районов города. Узнав о причинах зверств особистов, Чалый обращается за помощью к Козыреву. Он клянется другу в том, что его люди не причастны к ограблению, и предлагает совместно искать "залетных"...
