Штрафник - Season 1

Captain Ignat Belov is on his way home after the end of his military service. On the train he meets Sych, a criminal whom he has known since childhood. Sych offers him to take part in another risky job, but this time Ignat refuses, and tries to put a stop to their burglary, leading Soviets to believe he is an accomplice, and taken prisoner. Ignat is then released to put an end to Sych's crimes.

Ignat begins to fall for his new neighbor. He continues working his new job, completing crimes for them. During their raid of a clothing factory, Ignat's neighbor comes out to stop them, surprising Ignat. The elderly neighbor has a heart attack, leaving his grand-daughter without anyone. The police continue searching for Gorely, and get into a shootout, involving Ignat.

A man that is detained in relation to knowing Gorely, kills himself, or so it seems. The orphanage comes to take Ignat's young neighbor, and he promises to come later for her. Sych visits the brothel, where word gets out he is there. Ignat finds Sych's lover, but is beaten by her brother. The police track down Gorely, leading to a shootout. Ignat goes to the opera with the woman he likes.

Ignat finds Sych and sits down with him. He opens up about his feud with Gorely and recruits Ignat to help him get the jewelry. Together, they raid a bar and find a man to bring them to the jewelry, however, upon arrival it is not longer there. They leave thinking they have shot the man, however he plays dead, ready to bring back this information to Gorely. Viola runs into an old family friend.

Ignat goes undercover on a train, where the jewelry is believed to be. Ignat calls the police at the next train stop where the case of jewelry is taken off. The woman trying to win over Ignat frames Viola as a terrorist. Gorely steals from a Red Cross truck. Thinking he has killed everyone, he talks about his spy in the police. Ignat goes to visit Sasha, the orphan that is waiting for him.

Ignat delivers the stolen medicine to the hospital. Gorely is pleased and wants to sell the rest immediately, but first wants to meet Ignat. Viola gets in a fight in prison and Ignat tries to find ways to get in contact with her. Ignat goes to meet with Gorely, but instead is met with his colleagues, one of which he has met before.

Ignat deals with the aftermath of the medicine being stolen. He agrees to become the lover of the police chief's wife, in order to get Viola out, and the chief finds outs. The chief puts Ignat in jail. Sasha has disappeared from the orphanage, ad Ignat is on a mission to find her. Once he does, she falls very ill, so Ignat does whatever he can to get her medicine.

It is discovered that there is a double agent working for the police. He kills a young student and another officer, but gets caught. Ignat continues on his search for medicine for Sasha, whose health is quickly declining. Gorely and his gang raid the police office, after finding out that they arrested his wife. The major sets out to get Ignat back in prison.

The officer that Ignat had been reporting to has been killed, so he must convince a different officer of his allegiance. Ignat joins Gorely's gang, and asks for their help to release Viola, who is in high danger in prison. The major's wife attempts to murder him, but is unsuccessful. Ignat pretends to capture Gorely in front of the major in order to get Viola back.

Ignat plans a meet with with the major to get Viola in exchange for Gorely. It goes as planned, as Gorely then attacks the major. He escapes but orders for Ignat and Viola to be found. Gorely's wife is spotted in town, leading to him being watched, unable to escape. The major seeks out to find Viola and Ignat. Sasha is brought back to the orphanage. Ignat must win back Viola.

Ignat saves Sasha from the orphanage. The major sends one of Gorely's gang members to rat Ignat out to Gorely. Ignat and Gorely get into a fight over a mission that Ignat did not approve of. Ignat gets captured by police, who then want him to bring them to Gorely. Ignat escapes, and steals information from them instead, bringing that to Gorely. Sasha finds Ignat's gun.

Viola expresses her concern about Ignat's safety. Gorely's gang deals with the death of their member, who they discovered was sent by the police. The orphans follow Sasha home and attack Viola. The police raid Gorely's gang, and the chief has Ignat confess to Gorely that he has been working with the police also. However, Ignat tells where his loyalty really lies.
