Arne Tembrock hat den Kanal voll. Der Mittfünfziger betreibt ein traditionsreiches Fahrradgeschäft in einem Hamburger Stadtteil, dem der Ruf eines Unterschicht-Ghettos anhaftet. Das kleine Unternehmen läuft nicht gut; in einem "sozialen Brennpunkt" verkauft sich Billigware eben besser als Markenräder. Und dann ist da noch eine lärmende Gruppe von Jugendlichen, die Tag für Tag vor Tembrocks Laden abhängt und die Kundschaft verängstigt. Tembrocks Versuche, die jungen Menschen zum Weggehen zu bewegen, tragen ihm nur Hohn und Spott ein. Seine Wutausbrüche werden gar per Handy dokumentiert und im Internet einem Millionen-Publikum zugänglich gemacht. Die Nerven des Fahrradmechanikers liegen blank. Aber dann tritt plötzlich eine tödliche Stille ein. Nach wochenlangem Stellungskrieg wird ein Mitglied der Jugendgang erschossen an der Elbe aufgefunden: der 17-jährige Paul Matthes. Für seine Freunde steht rasch fest, wer der Täter war: der Fahrradhändler, mit dem Paul kurz vor seinem Tod eine Auseinandersetzung hatte. Sind Tembrock die Nerven durchgegangen? Stubbe steht vor einer unangenehmen Aufgabe: Er muss gegen einen fleißigen Familienvater ermitteln, dessen täglicher Kampf ums Überleben dem Kommissar eigentlich allen Respekt abnötigt.

Highway Thru Hell is ultimately a series about man versus Mother Nature and the toughest men in the towing business being pushed to their breaking point. The stakes are high - lives, the economy and thousands of jobs depend on the highways staying open, and the last line of defense is Heavy Rescue.
