Episode 1
In the first episode, ten-month-old Springer Spaniel Louie has been involved in a terrifying accident that has left him with potentially life-threatening internal injuries. While out for a walk, Louie impaled himself on stick that travelled deep inside his chest, stopping millimetres from his heart and a major artery. The soft tissue team rush Louie in for emergency surgery to remove traces of stick, stop the risk of serious infection and try to save this Spaniel's life.
Graeme follows the work of the physiotherapy team as they help 12-week-old Elton, a Sussex Spaniel, who needs to learn to walk again. The puppy has been referred to the hospital after a freak accident at home that's left him partially paralysed. Distraught owner Philippa has to leave her beloved pup in the care of a team of veterinary specialists for an intensive course of physiotherapy, in the hope that they are able to get Elton's back legs working again.
The life of 10-year-old, diabetic Husky Akasha and her distraught owners was turned upside down when she went blind overnight. Graeme joins them in a consultation to get an understanding of what caused the blindness before the surgeons carry out what they hope will be a life changing, precision operation to try to restore her eyesight. Any mistake could mean Akasha remains blind for life.
Episode 2
A two-year-old Labrador's life is on the line. Willow has been rushed to the hospital as an emergency because a severe infection has taken hold in her chest, leaving her struggling to breathe. Graeme is invited into surgery as the soft tissue team operate on Willow to relieve the pressure on her lungs and heart before trying to find the cause of the infection. For 24 critical hours, distraught owners Charlie and Amanda desperately hope their beloved companion pulls through.
Graeme meets Miniature Dachshund Dotty and her owner Olivia who are inseparable. They literally do everything together. Dotty has developed an immune disorder which has caused blindness in her right eye. The hospital has advised Olivia that her precious best friend needs an urgent procedure to remove the blind eye - a life-changing operation. But the ophthalmology team are concerned that Dotty's left eye is also showing signs of inflammation caused by the immune condition. Will they be able to do anything to save Dotty's left eye to avoid total blindness?
Nine-year-old Golden Retriever Millie lives with her sister Chloe and owner Bethan. The three girls are at their happiest when enjoying adventures together in Bethan's campervan. Millie has been referred to the hospital with an unexplained mass in her chest. Sadly, Bethan receives the news she has been dreading, that her beloved Millie has cancer. Graeme finds out from the specialists whether the tumour can safely be treated with modern technology, in the hope that Millie and Bethan are able to get away for more travels to spend precious time together.
Episode 3
This week on The Dog Hospital, sixteen-month-old Doberman Nova has a deadly congenital condition which is a ticking time bomb. Owners Mikela and Jimmy have discovered their beloved companion has a hole in her heart and requires a lifesaving operation. Graeme meets Cardiology Specialist Simon Swift to find out about the essential procedure and the risks involved. During surgery the cardiology team discover an unexpected complication. Will they be able to save Nova's life?
Graeme meets a 13-month-old Golden Spaniel who has a debilitating condition. For six months, Charlie has become increasingly unsteady on his feet and has been in a lot of pain. He has hip dysplasia and needs a total hip replacement. Newlywed owners Michaela and Lucy have put their lives on hold and hope their precious pup recovers from life-changing surgery.
Six-month-old Jack Russell Pug cross Roxy has been very poorly for most of her life. Days after coming to her new home, owners Sally and Percy feared something was wrong with their bundle of joy. Having visited the hospital, they discover Roxy has an ectopic ureter – one of the urinal pipes from her kidneys is by-passing her bladder which is causing worrying complications and a severe risk of infection. Graeme meets Soft Tissue Specialist Will Robinson who explains this is high risk surgery with a 50/50 chance of success. Will Roxy pull through her operation to survive into adulthood?
Episode 4
Graeme Hall meets a five-year-old Dachshund who needs life-changing spinal surgery to give him the chance to get back on his feet. Vader has become very unsteady on his back legs. Owners Amber and Dan face a tough decision – if left without an operation, their beloved companion could lose the ability to walk, but equally the operation is high risk which could leave Vader paralysed.
Daisy, an eight-year-old Chocolate Labrador, requires major surgery on a back leg after suffering a nasty accident while chasing a cat. A visit to the hospital reveals Daisy needs a complex procedure to replace a diseased Achilles tendon. Graeme joins Orthopaedic Specialist Alexis Bilmont in the operating theatre where an unexpected complication leaves Daisy requiring further surgery. It's an anxious time for owners Michelle and Gary.
Eight-year-old Bassett Hound Lottie has been battling cancer for over 12 months. Lottie's family had already suffered a tragic loss, so her illness has been all the more challenging for Mum Beccy and her children Jamie and Emily. Graeme sees at first hand the incredible work carried out by the hospital's Oncology team who help brave dogs like Lottie fight cancer. A course of chemotherapy could be her best chance of survival. Will the treatment prove a success leaving her cancer free?
