Veum is no longer working as a private investigator. He has a permanent job as a teacher; enjoying domestic calm with his new girlfriend Karin. "The Knife," a man Varg helped convict of murder, is released from prison, determined to take revenge on those who convicted him.

His investigation takes him to Budapest where he becomes involved in a deadly game in what will be his biggest and most dangerous case ever. Varg soon realizes that he has taken water way over his head when his girlfriend Karin becomes the next victim.
