In de jaren zestig vond een omslag plaats in het denken over opvoeden. De bevelshuishouding van toen heeft geleidelijk plaatsgemaakt voor het onderhandelsgezin van nu. Ouders zijn thuis niet langer onbetwist de baas, maar kinderen hebben steeds zeggenschap en verantwoordelijkheid gekregen over hun eigen opvoeding. Deze omslag in denken wordt vaak gezien als de belangrijkste oorzaak voor het ontstaan van een fuck-you cultuur onder de jeugd. Maar is dat wel zo? Hoe gaat het met de pubers van deze tijd, hoe staan zij in de wereld en hoe staan ze tegenover hun ouders, die in de jaren zestig zelf pubers waren? Om te achterhalen hoe het gaat met de pubers van ouders die zelf in de jaren zestig zijn opgegroeid, werd Tegenlicht gezinslid van een aantal Nederlandse huishoudens.
