In this programme, we meet Pusia the much-loved guinea pig from Wick who has a catalogue of problems including stones in her bladder and cysts on her ovaries. She has to go through major surgery, and as vet Fiona Crowden operates, will it all go according to plan? This is an emotional story of care and dedication that pulls on the heartstrings. In Aberdeenshire, Woody the Alsatian dog has lost the ability to stand, so the team at Ardene House decides to give him a scan to find out more. A huge portable MRI scanner comes to Ardene, and the news is not good for Woody. Meanwhile, love is in the air at Blair Drummond Safari Park, as vet Colin Scott finds loved up tigers, and some newborns of all shapes and sizes, from a meerkat to a llama. And we meet an adorable nine week old lion cub called Karis, who needs her first vaccine.

In this programme, we meet Craig Devine a specialist cardiologist vet, as he visits Ardene House in Aberdeenshire. We see the care and compassion he feels for the animals he treats, as he examines a dog that turns out to have more wrong with him than could possibly have been anticipated. In Wick, vet Iain Maclean has some challenging calves to treat, one with a badly broken leg and another that has eaten too much barley. The decision he makes has significant consequences for the farmer. And at Blair Drummond Safari Park, vet Colin Scott tends to a beautiful Scandinavian owl with a broken wing. She is the pride and joy of her keeper Mark who has looked after her from birth, even taking her home to his own house to get used to people and pets. His care and concern is apparent, and he relies on Colin's skill to nurse Lucy back to health.

In this programme, we follow equine specialist vet Scott Pirie at the Dick Vet School. One horse gets a CT scan, which is a real practical challenge, and a late night emergency case comes in with suspected colic, which is a life threatening condition. At Ardene House, Marcel Kovalik is the visiting specialist dermatologist vet who has to go through a process of elimination before he can identify what causes a dog's allergies. We also see him teaching an owner to inject his dog himself as they are going on vacation. And in Wick, we see how sick a newborn can get when Shadow the Alsatian puppy comes in after being very unwell, but vet Iain Maclean has good news for his owners who fear the worst. But it is not such good news for Shana the farmer who owns 15 goats as Iain goes out to see Opal, who is one of the older ones in her herd. Stories of joy and stories of sadness as we meet all creatures great and small.

In this programme, vet Ann Wortley gets her power tools out at Ardene House when two other methods fail as she tackles an orthopedic problem in a spaniel. A slip of the wrist would be catastrophic. She explains how being a vet is a vocation rather than a job, and speaks about the challenges and rewards she gets from her work. In Wick, vet Iain Maclean has lots of cattle cases to attend to. A cow that has newly calved can't get up as her womb has come out after giving birth to her calf, but she gives Iain a bit more than he bargained for.

In this programme, we visit the Wildlife Rescue Centre near Alloa, where specialist vet Romain Pizzi visits once a week. On this visit he examines seals, a swan, an owl, a sparrowhawk and hedgehogs, amongst others - some make it and some don't, and Romain has to make these difficult decisions. At Ardene House, visiting equine specialist vet Graham Munroe examines a retired fell pony who is going blind in one eye. Hanna spent her working life working amongst royalty on the Balmoral Estate and it is only recently that she has begun to have trouble with her eye. Graham needs to decide whether she needs to have her eye removed or not. In Wick, vet Iain Maclean examines an alsatian with a large lump in its ear and needs to decide if surgery is going to be a solution. Once Brandy is on the theatre table, though, he discovers more than he expected.

In this programme, at the out of hours emergency vet service in Aberdeenshire, principal vet David MacKenzie has a busy night. Tyson the miniature dachshund has a heavyweight yelp, Mittens the kitten proves to be a slippery customer, and David helps to deliver some puppies with mixed results. At Edinburgh Zoo, specialist vet Romain Pizzi takes blood samples from some penguins to check to see if they are responding to treatment for a lung infection. He also has to take Mr Black, the rockhopper penguin, to surgery for a spot of cosmetic surgery before the mating season begins. And in Wick, a strong-smelling customer is a reluctant visitor to the surgery. The pygmy goat by its very nature has a strong smell and a stubborn character. Maybe the goat knows what's ahead of him as he is brought in for castration, but he certainly shows his willfulness in more ways than one.

In this programme, Marty the male adult tiger at Highland Wildlife Park has toothache and needs treatment. So, how do you take 187 kilos of wild animal and give it root canal treatment? Well, local vet Jane Harley has to call in reinforcements to get the job done. Specialist dental vet Norman Johnson from North Berwick has to attend and so does specialist exotic animal vet Simon Girling from Edinburgh Zoo. Back near Aberdeen, vet David MacKenzie is on A&E duty at VetsNow and has a beautiful Vizsla dog called Jack to treat - he has been hit by a car and has a series of injuries. Meanwhile in Wick, vet Iain MacLean visits a pig with a sore elbow. Darcy is grumbling in his sty as he is examined by Iain, but Darcy's sister Holly has very different accommodation. She sleeps in the living room, which may not sound unusual until you realize she is now the size of a three seater sofa!

In the final programme, vet Fiona Crowden gets called out to a cattle farm in Wick where a cow carrying a calf has fallen down and can't get up. She needs to identify if the cow was weakened, causing her to fall down, or whether she has slipped and fallen, severely damaging her muscles. A blood test will reveal if she has and to what level. The farmer hopes she will recover, but will his efforts be in vain? At Ardene House, equine specialist vet Graham Munroe has the tricky task of performing keyhole surgery on a horse to repair a damaged tendon in its leg. Getting the horse prepped and sedated before it is hoisted by crane into surgery is no mean feat. And back in Wick, a very sickly new calf has been brought in to the surgery and Fiona has to treat it quickly if she is to save it. The calf goes downhill rapidly and then recovers before relapsing again. Will it make it through or not?
